It is officially warm in Philadelphia. Thank God. I will now commence to wear short sleeves as often as possible.
Seriously, I’m looking forward to spring. Not that I couldn’t stand the Philly winter, but I, for one, thoroughly enjoy being able to walk outside without a coat and being able to see the sun until nine o’clock at night.
Tomorrow I’ll be going to the U.S. District Court for Eastern Pennsylvania to see a sentencing hearing with my internship supervisor, who is covering the story. I also went to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court this past Tuesday to see oral arguments with another reporter from my internship. It was pretty interesting. I’d never been to court before, much less a state supreme court. Luckily, the reporter I was with was able to explain what was going on and break things down for me; even on a surface level, though, it was fascinating to watch the justices interacting with lawyers and with each other.
On other fronts, my internship is still going well. I’m still publishing stories frequently. Now that I’m settled in, I’m going to start trying to speak to people who work in different departments around the Legal in order to get a feel for how the organization as a whole operates. It’ll be part of what TPC calls my “learning plan,” which is all part of the process of experiential learning.
And now that it’s getting warmer, I need to start planning more ambitious projects outside of class. My roommates and I swore we’d make it up to New York City for a weekend, and it’s probably about time we planned that out. I also want to find places that have open mikes that I can play at, or I might try to busk at Market East or Suburban Station. And my roommate Nate and I are waiting for a good day to head over to Independence National Historical Park to visit the sites there.
